Senior Industrial Designer

At MotionMetrics, we create digital sports coaching experiences. Our first product is Carv, a digital skiing coach that blends hardware, software and real-time audio instruction to coach people how to ski better - a world first across sports.

We’ve shipped 21,000 units to date and are doubling production every year to keep up with demand. This is an outstanding opportunity to work in a fast growing VC backed sports technology start-up in London, alongside a fantastic team of hardware and software engineers, marketing and customer service experts who are all passionate about changing the paradigm of coaching.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Industrial Designer to join our team and bring a holistic and user-centred viewpoint to our future development. You will be working within our multidisciplinary hardware team to creatively solve design problems while ensuring a world-class user experience. You will have a crucial part of all stages of the product life cycle, from up-front user research and brainstorming new designs through to optimising for manufacture and solving problems during mass production.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Research and understanding of user requirements.

  • Conceptual design of new products and prototypes.

  • Creatively solving problems that occur during prototyping and manufacturing.

  • Producing renders for use in marketing and presentation documents to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Optimising designs for manufacturing and producing documentation to ensure products are produced to spec.

Our candidate is someone who:

  • Is a hands-on and multi-talented designer comfortable through the entire product life cycle, and comfortable getting involved with detailed engineering design and manufacturing.

  • Has 4+ years experience in industrial design.

  • Has experience working in multi-disciplinary teams developing consumer electronics or wearables.

  • Has a strong knowledge of manufacturing techniques and can innovate with known constraints at high and low volumes.

  • Loves the process, not the concept, and is in their element working through an iterative design process to make the best product possible.

  • Has a strong aesthetic sense with a proven record of creating beautiful and intuitive products.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with manufacturing in China.

  • Practical workshop and prototyping skills.

  • Experience working in-house at an SME.

  • Loves skiing!
