Record with Carv & win a pair of skis

We’re on the lookout for skiers to record powder skiing videos using the Carv app. The more videos you record, the better your chance of winning!

How it works

  1. Get a friend to film you skiing using Video Coach in the Carv app. Your filmer doesn’t need a paid Carv membership, but will need to download the Carv app and make an account.

  2. Ski some powder!*

  3. Register by filling out the form below.

  4. We’ll verify all submitted videos. Each powder video counts as one entry, so the more videos you record, the better your odds of winning.

  5. On 31st March, we'll randomly draw two winners from all entries - one male and one female.

  6. Winners will be contacted to arrange shipping. Each winner can choose any skis from this season's Elan range.

*see below for requirements

What counts as powder?

To ensure the data is useful for our machine learning models, snow conditions must meet the following criteria:

  • Mostly untracked: At least 80% of turns in untracked snow.
  • “The float”: Snow must be deep enough that the skier is supported by snow volume—not hitting a hard base.
  • Depth guideline:
    • 25cm+ of new snow
    • or 15cm+ of new snow on top of an older base that’s still soft.

Staying safe

Skiing in powder, especially in backcountry or uncontrolled terrain carries significant inherent risk. Powder conditions can increase the likelihood of avalanches, terrain traps, and other hazardous situations. If you are not properly trained in avalanche safety, rescue techniques, and terrain assessment, you may face serious injury or death. Before entering any area with avalanche exposure:

  • Obtain proper avalanche education from certified instructors.
  • Carry essential safety equipment, including a beacon, shovel, and probe, and know how to use them.
  • Check current avalanche forecasts and weather reports.
  • Travel with a trained partner or guide and use safe backcountry travel practices.
  • When in doubt, do not enter avalanche-prone terrain.

This information is not a substitute for formal avalanche training. Ski responsibly and prioritise safety at all times.

How to film

  • Get a friend to film you. Your filmer doesn’t need a Carv membership but will need to download the Carv app and make an account.
  • Click on the video icon on the Ski tab in the Carv app and record using Video Coach.
  • Ski a minimum of 10 turns in the conditions described above.
  • Skier must be fully in frame and clearly visible.

  • Filming angles:

    • Mid-segment (captures above, side, below) is ideal;

    • Top, bottom, or follow-cam angles also work.

  • You and your filmer will need to upload the Carv data to our server. This happens automatically when the app is open and connected to WiFi. The videos will appear in the skiers video coach once the upload is complete from both sides.

You're welcome to video some non-pow segments in the meantime, we just won't count this towards your competition entry.

Why we're doing this

We are collecting data for all the different skiing styles we support to improve all of our algorithms, but powder data is by far the hardest to come by. We should know - our HQ is in London. That's why we want to use this opportunity to capture more real-world powder skiing from our amazing community.

Your videos, paired with Carv data, will help take our powder detection models to the next level. Every clip counts, and we can't wait to see you shred the pow and help make Carv even better for everyone!
