If you don't want to upgrade, that's also fine! We have been able to bring the power of Motion AI into Ski:IQ Nevado software, making it backward compatible with your current sensors.

Carv 2 is built on Motion AI technology. We were able to make the power of Motion AI reverse compatible with the sensors in previous insert systems - so Carv 1 will have all of the same accuracy and all-terrain benefits of Carv 2.

They will both run the Ski:IQ Nevado software.

Carv 2 can do all of this, without any inserts in the boot, with USB-C charging and can be moved between boots with ease.

Our new Motion AI tech has made this possible, thanks to a breakthrough in how we process gyroscope and accelerometer data from our sensors. Carv 2 can create a highly accurate model of the movement of each foot.

Balance:

When we change our balance ('center of mass' relative to 'base of support') these movements affect the movement of our feet. Of course they do, otherwise balance wouldn't affect our skiing! Carv 2 has been trained to detect these effects on foot movement patterns.

When building the system we found our balance metrics derived from motion are actually more accurate than pressure, consistently aligned with expert feedback. Pressure patterns could vary greatly even with good technique.

Weight Release + G-force:

Carv 2 has a highly accurate accelerometer which allows us to detect acceleration in every axis. We can isolate the change in acceleration and detect both transition weight release (a brand new metric!) and G-force with a high degree of accuracy.

Carv focuses on measuring the boot/ski/snow interface. The movement of your upper body is important in great skiing, but those movements and mistakes show up in the movement of your feet. By watching your feet Carv can coach your upper body with tips that can help you align your balance, or correct non-parallel skis etc.

It is completely up to you whether you upgrade to the new version or continue using your current unit - there will be a consistent digital experience across all generations of the hardware. Your footbeds will continue to work as they have a motion sensor that can use the Ski:IQ Nevado algorithms. If you want to move to the smaller no-install sensor system then, please take advantage of our upgrade offer. If you upgrade to the new unit, you can continue to use your existing set up too - although, not at the same time!

We’ve built the latest Carv Ski:IQ system to be powered by Motion AI, which has allowed us to improve accuracy across the board. We’ve been able to make that retro-compatible with previous generations of the hardware, so you won’t miss out. As a result, pressure metrics will no longer be directly displayed as part of Ski:IQ. We had to take away pressure to make Carv 1 compatible with Ski:IQ Nevado (our most accurate system), and therefore as accurate as Carv 2.

• If you have friends or family who want to try Carv, you can lend them your Carv 1 to use with our new Buddy Pass option (which will be launched in November). Just be sure to take care when uninstalling and reinstalling the system into their boots, as moving the inserts between boots can sometimes cause damage.
  

• We’ve been looking for a way to increase accuracy without any boot insert or installation. Our new Motion AI tech has made this possible, thanks to a breakthrough in how we process gyroscope and accelerometer data from our sensors. This has allowed us to create a highly accurate model of the movement of each foot, meaning we can deliver more accuracy and more detail in how we analyze your skiing, without needing anything in the boot. Carv 2 measures balance metrics to a higher level of accuracy and we were even able to create a powerful new metric for weight release - just by analysing the motion of each foot.

While the core, digital experience is the same across both versions - so you’ll still enjoy the same quality of coaching - Carv 2 offers more versatility. The new “Clip and Go” design makes it super easy to switch between boots, and since it no longer sits under the liner, setup is quicker and simpler than ever!
