Hey Carv Family!

As 2023 comes to a close, we're gearing up for an exciting ski season ahead. In the spirit of the holidays, let's take a moment to reflect on the past year and anticipate what's in store for your most enjoyable Carv winter yet.

You Guys Sent It

2023 was HUGE for us, thanks to you:

  • Over 23,000 Carvers hit the slopes.

  • A whopping 64 million turns were recorded (our data team's loving it!).

  • 1963 resorts worldwide got some Carv love.

  • Whistler Blackcomb was the top spot.

  • And yes, we had Carvers on the slopes every single day this year.

With all those days skied and turns made, it’s not surprising that there have been some pretty special breakthrough moments within the Carv community. The team loves hearing about these accomplishments, and here are a few of our favorites from 2023.

We met up with our Carv community

One of the best things about working for Carv is getting to share our love and passion for skiing. The team all fight over who gets to run our big community meet-ups - most recently, Jack, Jenna, and Callum won the battle. They hit the slopes with you guys in Deer Valley and Park City, Utah, with a hand from Carv champ and power user, Ernest. Everyone, from Carv veterans to rookies, had a blast.

Everybody got the chance to check out the app updates and play around with the new features. Of course, there was a bit of competition with Ski:IQ scores. Shout out to Laura who overtook Olympian Ted on the leaderboard… for the day. Go Laura!

The day wrapped up with good food, cold beer, and the birth of a new Facebook group for planning more trips.

We Geeked Out on Product Development

2023 has been a standout year for Carv. Not only did we make the biggest improvements to date in our scoring system, but we’ve also introduced features that we’ve been working on (and you’ve been requesting) for years.

Before we can release these updates, we need to test them. Testing is key for us. It's how we make sure we create the best advice for your skiing, in all conditions, setups, and resorts.

Our most recent trip was in October 2023, when the hardware and software teams went out to Hintertux, Austria, to undertake the last rounds of testing for 2023. The team had a blast and their work paved the way for the most recent update.

We Introduced The Best Carv Ever

All the hard work and testing trips came to fruition at the end of 2023 with the biggest leap in our scoring system to date, introducing features long-requested by our community and a new level of accuracy in our scoring system.

We know this is pretty major for our users as it brings exciting things to experiment with and try in 2024,

One of the features that has been long in conversation with the community and the team is Terrain Detection - Carv now calculates a terrain adjustment for each segment you ski - detected in real-time using the data feed from your sensors.

We also have new metrics, a new active coaching mode, and an upgraded tips system. Check out what’s in store at Carv this season.

Our Leaderboard Got a Shake-up

Post-Hintertux, the leaderboard's got a fresh look. 54% of you had minor score tweaks, and 70% stayed in the same range. There's quite a buzz in the Carv community about these changes – it's fascinating to see how even a small shift in points can make a significant difference on the leaderboard standings.

And being the competitive team that we are, all eyes were on our internal office leaderboard. Special mention to Charlie, our General Sales Team Lead who's got some catching up to do following a brutal 11-point drop, and to Jenna, the current top dog of our Carv leaderboard with a Ski:IQ of 154!

Big Thanks

As 2023 wraps up and we head into the best 2 months of the year we're sending a massive thank you to our community of Carvers. Your feedback and love for the slopes fuel us.

Stay frosty,

The Carv Team 🎿💥

[P.S. Keep your goggles peeled for more meet-ups and updates coming soon!]
