Your Skiing Profile
You've certainly got some impressive style on the slopes. Equipped to roam the mountain freely, you're happily rolling onto your edges and performing a mix of parallel and carving turns.
But with just a few refinements to your technique, your flourishing style can transform into impressive technical skiing that will turn heads as you glide down the mountains.
Read on for some tips to help you find your next level.
Carv is the world's first digital ski coach. Built with world-class instructors, Carv provides personalised coaching and real-time audio feedback as you ski.
We've developed Ski:IQ™ as a quantified score of your skiing technique. While we can only estimate your Ski:IQ™ based on the quiz, with Carv in your ski boots you'll be able to track your progress against 4 fundamental skiing skills: Balance, Edging, Rotation, and Pressure.
Technique Teardown
Here's how a run summary looks for skiers of your level in the Carv app.
On your next ski trip, you should be thinking about how you keep developing your Balance and Edging.
Being able to balance throughout the turn is a hallmark of great skiing. It's not just about being 'forward' at all times.
To achieve better edge hold, move your weight to the front of your skis at the start of the turn.
As you approach the end of the turn, shift your weight slightly back to maintain grip in the tails of the ski and avoid 'washing out'.
The best skiers demonstrate good edge similarity, where both skis tilt through the turn at the same angle.
To improve your edge similarity, imagine you are skiing with a bubble between your knees.
Try to stop the bubble from popping whilst also moving the bubble from side to side as you edge your skis.
Your Focus Areas
Tip no.1
Start of turn balance
Having a forward stance at the start of the turn is more difficult than it sounds, but it's essential if you want to progress on steeps or in short turns.
Dynamic balance is all about knowing how to move your weight forwards at the turn initiation to create pressure through the ski tips.
At the start of your turn, roll your skis onto their new edges, while applying forward pressure to create grip in the ski tips. It should feel as though you are moving diagonally across your skis, as opposed to just forward or across. With Carv, check out the Start of turn metric score to see how you're doing.
Tip no.2
Get more on edge
The edges of your skis are designed to find grip in the snow and help you to turn. But leaning into the turn can sometimes feel daunting and counterintuitive.
As you turn, imagine that the edges of your skis are building a supportive wall in the snow that you can lean against.
The more firmly this wall is in place, the more you can balance sideways against it.
Tip no.3
