You’ll be looking to feel confident wherever you are on the slopes. Every trip to the mountains is a learning opportunity.
You might feel stuck on some days, and have a total breakthrough on others. We're here to push you towards the latter!
Read on for a few key tips to help you to cruise down the pistes in style.
Carv is the world's first digital ski coach. Built with world-class instructors, Carv provides personalised coaching and real-time audio feedback as you ski.
We've developed Ski:IQ™ as a quantified score of your skiing technique. While we can only estimate your Ski:IQ™ based on the quiz, with Carv in your ski boots you'll be able to track your progress against 4 fundamental skiing skills: Balance, Edging, Rotation, and Pressure.
Technique Teardown
Here's how a run summary might look for you on the Carv app.
At every technique level, there are key skills to master that will take your skiing to the next level. Two very important skill areas for you are Balance and Pressure.
As you develop your parallel turns, it's important to stay balanced as you make your way down the mountain.
A strong athletic stance is the basis of good skiing. Keep your knees slightly bent and feel pressure on the tongues of your ski boots.
It's also important to keep your feet shoulder-width apart, in line with your hips.
Applying more pressure on the outside ski is going to be the key to controlling your turns on any slope.
As you transition from one turn into the next, try to smoothly shift your weight onto the new outside ski.
Do you think you can lift your inside ski off the snow at any point? If not, then you still have your weight on it.
Your Focus Areas
Tip no.1
Start of turn balance
Getting forwards at the start of the turn is essential to developing your parallel skiing, and will give you the confidence to direct your skis more easily.
Through your turns, feel a gentle pressure between your shins and the tongue of your ski boots, and centre your weight over your toes, while keeping your knees slightly bent.
Carv will help you dial in the right stance with live audio feedback and accurate scores of your fore:aft balance.
Tip no.2
Ski to the beat
Turning symmetrically in both directions will allow you to ski with greater flow and control.
Next time you're on the slopes, put in earphones and listen to some music with a strong beat. Make your turns on the beat and try to find a strong, regular skiing rhythm. Or with Carv, try the Metronome Challenge to do just that!
(Make sure you remain aware of those around you on the slopes!)
Tip no.3
Find your Flow
Carv Ambassador and full-cert instructor Christian Aigner breaks down three tips to help you ski with more flow.
