Our goal is for more people to experience the thrill of carving steep corduroy, the satisfaction of making it down a double black diamond, or simply the freedom of skiing with confidence.
With 380 million turns recorded on Carv, and a whole lot of data science magic, we’ve helped over 35,000 skiers achieve their goals.
But we’re not done yet.
From humble beginnings
Our story starts with a vacation that didn’t go to plan. A skier, Jamie, wanted to keep up with his friends on a college ski trip, and instead found himself alone on the bunny hill...
Jamie returned to his PhD in London frustrated, but having caught the skiing bug nonetheless. So, he started upon a quest to hack skiing improvement.
The aim was to find a way to measure his technique, so that he could know when he improved - and as a physicist, this needed to be founded upon hard data!
Building algorithms and applying machine learning to this brand new problem became Jamie’s passion project.
But, he needed a partner in crime. Pruth joined the mission to make it a team of two, and the rest is history.
Jamie and Pruth started by skiing on a dry slope with a tupperware taped to their knees. But over the next 8 years, they invented a device that quantified skiing metrics for the first time.
In 2015, Carv was little more than 2 founders, a prototype, and a dream. It’s safe to say that we’ve come a long way.
The founding principle of Carv is to help you discover what to work on next. Carv has been designed to give every skier detailed and accurate performance data so you can understand your own skiing - and improve. Each year, we add to our 400 million turn database of turns. From that incredible resource, our team are able to quantify parts of technique that we've only been able to guess at until now.
Skiing is a challenging sport to learn. By shortening the feedback loop, we can create faster learning - so you can experiment, adapt and unlock what great skiing 'feels like'. We do this with audio tips and Ski:IQ data after each run, and after each turn with our real-time feedback training modes.
We're lucky to work with some of the best instructors in the world. It's our goal to bring their incredible expertise to you, tailored to your technique profile.
In 2016, Carv broke records to become the most funded sports wearable on Kickstarter.
In 2021 we welcomed our 10,000th Carv skier and celebrated another sell-out season.
In 2021, we launched membership and invested in developing our coaching every season.
In 2022 we partnered with Ted Ligety, 5-time world champion to bring the advice of the world's best to our members
By 2018, thousands of skiers around the world had collectively recorded over 1M turns with Carv.
In 2021, we were humbled to receive our first major award, a Queen's Award for Enterprise.
By 2022 a community of over 20,000 Carv members had recorded a whopping 100M turns.

Carv was born in the UK, and our home is in Vauxhall, London.
Most of our team are based here, and it’s where we obsess over strategy and code the future of Carv.
Innsbruck is our home away from home.
A short hop from London, we’re often here in the season to test new features and do what we love most - ski!
Members have skied with Carv in 62 countries.
That’s 2,373 resorts to join meet-ups and connect with other Carv members - and even the Carv team. We often sneak in a trip to North America.
