What's New with Ski:IQ™?
150 million turns driving your score
At the start of last season, Carv had the world's largest collection of skiing data. Now as we close off the 2021/22 season, we've more than quadrupled that number with over 150 million recorded turns.
With this ever-growing data-set and a team of world-class instructors, we've taken our proprietary Ski:IQ™ algorithm to a whole new level. We're proud to release new metrics that are easier to understand and contribute to our most accurate skiing measurement system ever. There's nothing else out there that can characterise your skiing like this year's Ski:IQ™ score.

Meet the New Metrics
Meet the New Metrics
Balance, re-balanced
Finding balance is more than just 'getting forwards'. It's a dynamic process, so we wanted to show that but keep it as easy to understand as possible. Introducing our three new Balance metrics:
- Start of turn - How well do you move your balance forwards at the start of the turn?
- End of turn - Are you starting to move backwards after the apex of the turn?
- Topple - How smoothly do you move your body inside your skis as you start the turn?
Meet the New Metrics
We've turned around Rotary
This season, our Lead Data Scientist, Charlie, and his team have completely redesigned our Rotary metrics using a new statistical method. Carv will now score your rotary skills for all types of turn, including carving.
Introducing:
- Parallel Skis - How well do you rotate your skis together, keeping them parallel throughout the turn?
- Turn Shape - Can you form symmetrical S-shaped turns across the slope?
Meet the New Metrics
What does this mean for your skiing?
- Easier to understand, easier to improve
We've worked hard to make our new metrics easier to interpret. Because understanding why you're making changes is the key to sustained and continuous improvement.
- Personalised target zones
We now show you targets that are relevant to your skiing journey, so you always know which metric to work on next to improve your skiing the most.
- Higher scores, better skiing
With a growing database of more than 150 million turns, and triple the data-science capacity, we've dialled in the scaling of each metric. This season, you'll get an even stronger correlation between higher metric scores and better skiing technique.

Double the tips
We've worked with top-level instructors from across the world to more than double the number of tips that you'll receive when skiing with Carv.
This means that if you get stuck on a particular technique area, you'll receive a range of advice - drills to try and concept explanations - to help you find your next breakthrough.

Even more accurate
In their perpetual quest for the most accurate Ski:IQ™ model, Lead Data Scientist Charlie and his team have re-designed the metric-weighting system that makes up your Ski:IQ™ score.
With our new algorithm, driven by a machine-learning model, Ski:IQ™ can now more accurately score a wider variety of turn-types with a particular improvement in the scoring of short-radius turns.
We'd love to tell you more, but that'd mean revealing our Ski:IQ™ secret sauce...

Will my Ski:IQ™ score change this season?
- Most Carv skiers will only see a minor change in their scores this season, with the majority of skiers' best Ski:IQ™ score changing by less than 5 points.
- Last season your Ski:IQ™ scores were very accurate, so this season's changes have only slightly altered the majority of scores as we've dialled in Ski:IQ™ even further.
